Why most Abilene businesses are invisible on Google
We audit a lot of profiles in this town. The same problems come up over and over, and none of them are hard to fix once somebody actually looks.
The primary category is wrong
Google decides what you are relevant for based mostly on your primary category, and most owners picked theirs in about four seconds when they claimed the listing. A roofer categorized as a general contractor is competing in the wrong race. If you have never deliberately chosen your primary category, that alone is probably costing you rankings.
The services section is empty
Google gives you a services section on your profile and lets you write a 300 character description for every one. That is free real estate telling Google exactly what you sell, and the majority of Abilene profiles leave it blank. Every service you offer should be listed, in the words your customers use, not your industry's internal jargon.
Reviews stopped two years ago
Twelve reviews from 2023 reads worse than four from last month. Google weighs recency and velocity, and so does the person deciding whether to call you. If reviews only come in when somebody happens to think of it, you do not have a review system, and you are leaving the single biggest local ranking lever on the table.
The profile points at the homepage
Your Google profile links to your homepage, which is about everything you do, so a person who searched for one specific service lands on a page that does not answer their question and leaves. Point the profile at a page built for the search that brought them, with the phone number visible without scrolling.
Nobody is tracking anything
Without tracking on your profile links, you cannot tell whether Google is producing customers or just impressions. We put tracking on every link on the profile so you can see in your analytics exactly what the profile produced, in dollars, not in views.
The website and the profile disagree
The address on your site does not match the profile, the phone number is different on Facebook, and an old listing somewhere still has a number you disconnected in 2022. Google reads all of it and gets less confident about who you are, and that uncertainty shows up as lower rankings.
